John Fleming 1792-1845

John Fleming lived and worked in Greenock as a landscape painter is best known for the series of views of the lakes of Scotland, which were published as engravings in Swan's Lakes of Scotland, published in 1834.


Fleming was apprenticed to a house painter at the age of fourteen. His work took him to London where he began to study paintings and creating his own landscape of Scottish scenery.


Fleming exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy in 1828, 1830 and 1837.
