  • > Timorous Beasties
Noted for their irreverent and provocative textiles and wallpapers, the design studio, Timorous Beasties, was founded in Glasgow in 1990 by Alistair McAuley and Paul Simmons, who met studying textile design at Glasgow School of Art. The studio’s nascent days were precarious: out of necessity, production often relied on using paper bolt-ends begged for or bought cheap from wallpaper manufacturers. Today, the studio is a diverse operation and has emerged as an internationally acclaimed icon. Their first retail shop opened in 2004 on the Great Western Road, Glasgow and a second shop in central London in 2007. Their work is included in collections worldwide including the Victoria &Albert Museum, Cooper Hewitt Museum and the Chicago Art Institute. Commissions have included work with Claridges, Wellcome Trust and the V&A Boardroom.
