Fiona Dean: The Arrangement of Skin

15 November - 23 December 2019
Overview

The arrangement of skin, was an exhibition of taxidermy art by Fiona Dean. Blending science and artistry, Dean showcases a variety of bird species in surprising and unconstrained arrangements.

Dean’s fascination with the process of taxidermy became an artistic calling following training with Scottish taxidermist George Jamieson in 2012. Dean’s specialism is in the creation of conceptual pieces which untangle some of the psychological and biological questions between the fields of taxidermy and art. Her work captures the characteristics of animals, incorporating them conceptually into each piece.  She often looks into the mythology and the symbolic meaning of birds and connects this to the work.
