Hang 2 //: Scottish Painting 1900-1940

13 February - 14 March 2020
Overview

The years 1900 to 1939 saw Britain move from a period of relative innocence and comfort to the trauma of war. After World War 1, artists retreated to more traditional, figurative art. The brutality of war encouraged them to step away from the radical. Amongst the artists whose pictures have been selected for the hang, there are a variety of approaches and subject matter that reflect and observe rather than challenge:

Including works by : Robert Austen, Gerald Brockhurst, James Cowie, John Duncan, J D Fergusson, G L Hunter, John Maxwell, James McBey, James Paterson, E A Walton, Willie Wilson
