William Stewart MacGeorge Scottish, 1861-1931

MacGeorge was a Kirkcudbright School artist. Born in Castle Douglas, he was a painter of children and fisher folk, on the shores of the Solway or by the River Dee. He created narrative paintings inspired by Galloway's Folklore. Although his friendship with Hornel and the latter's love for vivid colours and loose brushstrokes influenced his late paintings, MacGeorge remains the most naturalistic painter of the Kirkcudbright School.
