  • > William Robson
1868 - 1952
Born in Edinburgh, Robson was the youngest son of Earl Sinclair. He studied at the ECA and in Paris. In 1888 he came into contact with an international group of painters. He lived and painted in Venice and Florence and married an Italian girl. He returned to Edinburgh in 1900 and exhibited regularly, becoming President of the Scottish Society of Artists. In 1904 he moved to Kirkcudbright in 1904 where he came to know Hornel and the other artists working in the area and the style of painting he developed in Italy was superseded by a more distinctly Scottish one.
