1854 - 1929
Born in Edinburgh, Patrick William Adam was best known for his interiors, most of which were painted at North Berwick, where he settled in 1908. Having studied at the Royal Scottish Academy, his first successes were in portraiture. Between 1889 and 1894 he painted a notable series of Venetian views and in 1896 - 7 a series of winter landscapes. Adam worked mainly in oil and pastel, though some of his earlier landscapes were in watercolour.
